Dear Alastair, I found your blog after seeing the program about your depression and mental health you did recently. I’m very glad you made it. I’m sorry you suffer in the way you do and I’m glad that you find music lifts the soul. I’ve not heard of Skipinnish before so went on to YouTube to hear them. They sound great. Thanks for the enrichment. I shall add them to my list for listening.
I don’t suffer from depression but when I feel a bit down or unhappy or a bit sad I find music helps me and lifts my soul and spirit. Love music all kinds.
I tried to contact you through twitter after watching some of your program.
I’ve now watched it all and the jam jar thing brought back a very old memory I remember from school from 30 yrs ago. The teacher used a jam jar for this. It was that if you filled you life ( jam jar) with little problems and worries and bad stuff all the time ( sand) you wouldn’t have space for the really important things ( large marbles) . But if you filled your life with the important things ( marbles) you would still have some space for other things like worries but they would feel less and take up less space in your life.
I wish that you could be happy and I wish you many blessings.

But if you filled your life with the important things ( marbles) you would still have some space for other things like worries but they would feel less and take up less space in your life. If I remember right it was a science class and they were using this as a metaphor for atoms, molecules and the spaces imbetween. ( yeah i know it’s nothing to do with mental health but it was the concept of using the jam jar that brought back this memory).
I wish that you could be as happy as possible and I wish you many blessings.
